IEEE at UCLA

Workshops Recordings and Slides

IEEE holds a series of workshops throughout the school year where anyone can participate and learn about new skills and technologies. These projects are aimed at teaching everyone, engineers and non-engineers, about common skills in electrical engineering such as soldering, image processing, prototyping, and electronics.

MATLAB Workshop

March 9th, 2023

This MATLAB workshop is guaranteed to help you succeed in courses like 133A, 131A, and 132A. We will be going through the fundamentals of MATLAB, as well as showing you demos and providing extensions for you to practice during your own time.

Basic Circuit Workshop

October 6th, 2022

If you want to get started with electrical engineering, you should first learn a little bit about electricity! We will start from the beginning with how electricity works, basic rules of circuits, and the most common components. Whether resistors, transistors, or LEDs, the behavior of electronic components will be clarified as you work hands-on with partners to build and test simple circuits.

Soldering Workshop

October 20th, 2022

If you want to have the ability to build your own projects, soldering is one of those essential EE skills that you must have! Join us as we teach you how to solder through-hole and SMD (Surface Mount Device) resistors, LEDs, ICs, and much more! As the hands-on experience for this workshop, you will be making your very own light up IEEE sign!

PCB Design Workshop

November 8th, 2022

Are you tired of breadboards and messy jumper wires? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Make sure to join our PCB Design workshop, where we will teach you the basics of how to design a functioning PCB.

Resume & Interview Workshop

November 15th, 2022

Just having engineering skills isn't enough to land the job, you need to be able to show them. Join us as we teach you to separate the good resumes from the bad, answer those tricky interview questions, and learn about the internship recruitment process. Then, put what you've learned to the test in our resume review and practice interview rooms with older students!

Verilog Workshop

February 10th, 2022

What is HDL? What is digital logic? What is an FPGA? We got you covered. The Verilog Workshop will teach you anything from binary computation to how to code an FPGA. We cover topics like how to operate binary numbers, logic gates, systemVerilog, and waveforms. In the end you will be able to complete a decoder module on EDA playground.

3D Printing Workshop

October 20th, 2020

Learn the in's and out's of 3D printing, and start your own print! Ever wonder how these printers work? Whether you'd like to print your own trinkets, food, or rocket ships, 3D printing has taken the world by storm. Come by to get an introduction to how 3D printing works and what makes a successful print, as well as how to get it done on your own! We'll prove to you, once and for all, that 3D is better than 2D.

LTspice Workshop

May 2nd, 2020

Come out to an introductory workshop to spice software for circuit simulation. We'll go over the basics using LTspice on how to set circuits up and do dc and ac analysis. Useful for personal projects or even circuits classes!!

Advanced PCB Design Workshop

April 16th, 2020

This week's workshop will be an Advanced EAGLE session! Join us for a free tutorial on using EAGLE software with more advanced tips on designing PCBs. We'll be going over an in-depth process of common schematic practices, component placement, routing techniques, and more! Up your embedded design game. Make sure to stay safe and workshop managers Evan and Henry hope to see you there! Check out our schedule for more exciting workshops.
